oorain, powdered aluminium mixed with lead tetraoxide (possibly present in the rust proofing on steel girders) can be explosive....maybe there was some of that in the "rust" used in the experiment...
But water on melting aluminium. no. If that could happen, they wouldnt spray down burning aircraft after a crash, would they, if the water was likely to cause an explosion??
