Recently China has been making incursions into Philippines sovereign territory in the Scarborough Shoal and wants to claim that territory which is thought to sit above Oil and Gas. The Philippines is a mere ant compared to China but the USA stepped up and publicly states "we have a joint defense agreement with The Philippines and as such any attack on The Philippines is an attack on the USA".

We have the same agreement with the USA. Something to keep in mind in the decades ahead and when pondering US military spending.
