From the reading l have done over the years the
risk factors for people to commit violent crimes
, including murder, are:
1. Brain injury ,
2. People born as psychopaths.
3. People neglected or abused as children
4. Low I.Q.
5. Mental illness
Research suggests that someone who is abused
as child , combined with a low I.Q. is at a high
risk compared to someone who just has one
risk factor.
I grew up with a guy who went on to commit
murder in his early twenties. As a young child it
was fairly obvious something wasn’t right in his
life and his behaviour become more abhorrent
as he got older. It was obvious by his teen years
that he was headed for serious trouble, no one
intervened until he committed murder. I was
friends with this guy from age 5 to 14 and as bad
as his crime was and despite him becoming a
nasty, horrible adult, it’s hard not to feel some
empathy for a life gone horribly astray.
I have often wondered why there was never any
intervention in this guy’s life , or other kids I
knew for that matter, when it was obvious that
they were headed for trouble.
