BHP's Worsley alumina expansion gets the greens tick

A $900 million expansion of BHP Billiton's Worsley alumina refinery has been given environmental approval, underpinning a production increase of one million tonnes a year.
Western Australia's environment minister Mark McGowan imposed strict environmental conditions on the project in relation to the nearby jarrah forrest and air emissions from the operation.
BHP Billiton has an 86 per cent stake in Worsley, which is one of three aluminium refineries it is involved in worldwide, and will now undertake a feasibility study.
BHP Billiton manufactures four million tonnes of alumina a year from across its operations, with Worsley currently contribuing 3.5 million tonnes each year.
