I have "disarmed" many an old darlin' male and female, in the night when they've been chasing a burglar or looking for the crying baby. even those in a rage are usually looking for someone rather than lashing out..... they pick up stuff if they're scared. and this is what puzzles me, old ladies tend to be relieved to see the police come to help.
