    Lappy,
I have been living and working in remote indigenous communities since 2007.
I had NEVER, EVER, observed, witnessed or even heard of a welcome to country anywhere in any of those communities when dignatories, politicians, sportspeople, elders or any person of interest or note came into the communities.
    It NEVER existed, period!!!
The first time I ever saw it was on the television at a sports event just a few brief years ago.
Now I'm all for a knowledging the indigenous past of a place an event may occur but this welcome garbage is, as we know made up!
Same with this Uncle and Auntie crap, like any family group, they may be held in a certain regard but not in the wider group or population.
So much of WTC is contrived and a fictional history.
That can also be said for smoking ceremonies, which traditionally are specifically conducted after a person's passing, not as a form of welcome!
