    @cjbjb2702; researchers are beginning to explore many more aspects of Aboriginal Culture than we've previously been fed by our 'historians'.

    For example; for several decades now they've collected the diaries of the first white women to live in the Gippsland Region and those of their kids - one of my old schools used to use those primary sources instead of the opinions and commentary published by our well-known 'historians'.

    What's emerged thus far is that such ceremonies / practices did exist but were variable and may not have been universal throughout Australia.

    The story below is just one example of the perspectives early white settlers had of Aboriginal Communities in their vicinity - 'A Saddle at Bontharambo' by H.J.Samuel [Bontharambo includes a magnificent old mansion and is a great place to visit just North of Wangaratta in NE Vic.].
