The organisms were probably Escherichia coli, Salmonella species and Campylobacter species.
I have seen data that convinces me that the major route for infection from meat, like chicken, is the hands. When we handle the chicken she refers to we pick up those bacteria on our hands. So after handling meat we should not put our hands near our mouth/face and we should thoroughly wash our hands. Once chicken has been cooked it is safe. Remember the bacteria are NOT IN THE MEAT but on the surfaces.
