Reminds me of the spread sheet I was given to process on the computer system and when done asked could they reconcile computer system results back to the spread sheet. Yes, they both reconciled - hooray it is 99.9% correct - then someone pointed out the data on the spread sheet was wrong when compiled - two wrongs made a right. I believe the temperature data gone into making up the 20 century average is corrupt.
