No need to get alarmed. Patent challenge is a normal part of business in the US and may not apply at all to NEA. And even if it does, I believe NEA is more than capable of defending its IP.

From the little I've scanned this am, Pictometry's IP lies within its oblique image capture software that effectively places each pixel into a 3D coordinate. This then allows accurate vertical analytical capability...not just horizontal/near horizontal as with NEA. And I think NEA may have held off a bit on promoting or advancing their 3D aspirations. They talked about it quite a bit a few years ago but seem to be a lot quieter on the subject nowadays.

Pictometry is being acquired by a multi-$B risk assessment group called VERISK Analytics Inc (VRSK) who can use a lot of accurate visuals to help quantify insurance risk etc.
