I'll chat about the Big River as a gold mining tenement - it's all alluvial along the Big River so it will never be mined as alluvial because the Big River flows into Lake Eildon, and the water authorities would not accept the river and lake turbidity that would be a consequence
more interesting than that is that the abundant alluvial in the Big River has as its source some reefs and dykes held by MCO, such as All Nations and Waverly - the source of the gold in the Big River is about 5 km NW of Matlock - somewhere near the Waverly dyke
there are no old underground mines along the entire length of the Big River, not on my maps
it would have to a an exceptionally smooth talker that could get some ignorant city slickers to invest in the Big River "reserve"

about 45 km in a straight line from Walhalla to Woods Point, but by road I'd reckon double that, and that road after you pass the Thomson Dam going north is rather rough and narrow but OK for your average 2WD
according to the historic records of old alluvial claims there were very few on the Aberfeldy River north of Donellys Creek but plenty along Donellys Creek and plenty on Fultons Creek, plus plenty along the Aberfeldy River between those two creeks
that gold mining "Historical Area" just south of Aberfeldy looks like a good spot to do some panning
