thanks for your post
i did not embelish on what coming to jesus in repentance meant
as i have done so in so many other occasions
but yes of course christians believe that jesus death was a sacrifice the sins of those who come to him
and don't leave god out of that sacrifice
seeing christs enemies put his son to death in probably the cruelest way imaginable
and then above all laying the sin of all who will come to him on jesus
so that we can be pardoned /justified
not only that but that jesus rose again and has given us his spirit so that we can resist the devil
the point of my post was
god gives a gift free Faith
faith to believe in what jesus has done
and how we can now be justified by repentance and trusting in his promise
to transform our minds and live in the way he wants us to
with the help of the holy spirit living with us
no one can claim credit for becoming a christian it is all done by gods grace alone
so that we can only boast in gods saving grace nothing of ourselves

Faith is a perplexing concept at the best of times.
God gives us faith (at no cost to ourselves - it is free), but in order to receive this free gift of faith, we need faith (to believe what Jesus did).
It seems to be a circular argument.
