    mojo,

aside from capturing and storing the carbon im not sure that anybody is taking the steps that linc are to minimize emmissions.

ofcourse ucg is far more environmentally friendly than surface gasification.

there are issues with carbon capture and storage though and this is very likely the reason that linc have taken the initiatives it has.

the costs to capture it and transport it to an approved storage location are expensive. it is also believed that the energy required and thus the carbon created to capture the carbon is likely nullify the benifits of capturing the carbon. keep in mind also that there are only about 100 sites in oz that have been considered suitable for storage.

for example, a coal fired power plant would need to burn around 30% more coal to power the capturing plant which in turn would increase the cost of electricity considerably. they would then need to transport this carbon, possibly vast distances, to the storage location.

so linc are probably on the right path to minimize its impact on the environment in a cost efficient manner.

    cheers
