When you consider this is only one of several similar facilities affecting the pholk of Tara is it any wonder they are getting sick?
Such are the joys of living in a gas mining district!
Of course this is just another good reason that the pholk of the NSW Northern Rivers DON'T WANT to be living in a gas mining district.
It's interesting to read the self-serving pronouncements of those who support this industry - we've all read them - "I was discussing this at the pub last night and everyone was 100% in favour of industrialisation of our district." The only problem with that is that when pholk are surveyed at a more representative level than a red-neck pub or a dinner party stacked with mining company employees/ shareholders, the results are different.
Here's the results for a survey of North Casino (and remember this is a town some would have us believe is 99% in favour of CSG mining):
"There is widespread uncertainty in Richmond Valley about the safety and wisdom of unconventional gas mining. This was confirmed by last week’s door to door survey of South Casino residents by the Richmond Valley Group against Gas. The results also show that four times more residents don’t want mining than those who do. These findings are the first strong indication that the claim by Metgasco and its supporters that there is a ‘massive silent majority in Casino in favour of gas mining’, is an unsubstantiated myth. The good news for those who don’t want gas is that they are now free to say so without being intimidated by thinking they are part of a small minority. The survey, conducted by a team of trained volunteers, canvassed almost 500 homes, gathering responses from over 600 residents. Where residents were not home, leaflets were left inviting them to phone-in or email their responses, enabling every resident to have their say."
