Rough area of main Maple Syrup production
not too hot and not too cold with the right trees

Historical note - French colony of Upper and Lower Canada did not have direct access to sugar cane so used Maple Syrup for everything
The English settlers in the south always had that option but industrially used sugar cane as the less costly source of sugar (and they had the 'manpower' in the West Indies and southern colonies)

When the Canucks decided to modernize the flag, the maple leaf seemed an obvious choice (a hockey stick and puck was a distant second in the votes

The US produces more but the Canuck stuff especially the Quebecois variety is the best but then again I am prejudiced.
