I'll try and be fair and unbiased. The cable you mention certainly is a bargain but you can't buy it online as you suggest. You have to buy it in store and all the stores in Melbourne reasonably close to me don't have any. So it wouldn't make any difference if they advertised them for 50c. I could travel to Traralgon on the way down to our beach house. They have them. That would only be a trip of about 50 km there and back.

I hope I don't sound thick but your one example of an out of stock 'special' doesn't negate the overall proposition that for some time DS have been uncompetitive and finally it's caught up with them.
