my understanding was that SILEX was proven lab-scale workable at Lucas Heights. test-loop verification at Wilmington (completed recently after long delays) pretty much proved commercial scalability. the next step that comes after test-loop is process-engineering design optimisation of the production cascade - this process seems to be running over schedule probably a little intentionally so as to time eventual deployment to coincide with improving demand for enrichment services. was my undestanding so far off?
the last i read, USEC doesnt have a fully working ACP. what they have since USEC bankruptcy is that the existing equipment has been put under care and maintenance and not up and running enriching uranium. in fact, i seem to remember that the monstrous centrifuge size of the design compared to existing centrifuge technology had somewhat serious reliability problems. what i've read doesnt seem to point to the ACP being anywhere near production ready otherwise USEC would not still be trying to beg the US govt for money to get the ACP going.
