    Vlad, it was a totally different country in the 50s. They were screaming out for people to emigrate as after WWII, as many of the brave Australian men had fallen on the battlefields in the Pacific and Europe.

    Today we have insufficient infrastructure for the existing population, we have unaffordable housing due to supply constraints. Water shortages due to population pressures, also blackouts and brownouts common in some areas due to demand pressures.

    That is why the government is being selective in who arrives here, with only students, skilled and refugees allowed. Unfortunately there are many who are taking advantage of the refugee system. They are not true refugees, but rather economic refugees. Coming to a country that pays you to do do nothing sounds like a good deal to some one living off a bowl of rice a day.
