"Tisha Thi Thi Phan, owner of I Design Optical stores in Macquarie Fields and Minto, submitted almost 30,000 claims for more than 49,000 optometry services that were not actually provided to patients over an 18-month period between October 2013 and March 2015."

"None of the false claims were made in Phan's own name as she wasn't an optometrist and did not have a provider number assigned to her." Unbelievable.

She also submitted almost 12,000 further claims worth more than $870,000 but those were rejected."

During a formal interview with investigators in March 2016, Ms Phan denied making the fraudulent claims but admitted to receiving and spending the proceeds that were paid into her personal St George bank account.

She later contacted investigators to request a second interview, during which she admitted to the scheme.

NSW District Court judge Leonie Flannery jailed Phan on November 23 for a maximum of five years, with a non-parole period of three years. The maximum sentence should be 10 years and that's what she should have got. If there was any genuine respect for the country's taxpayers, that is.

It's outrageous, most people work bloody hard, more so these days and for this bitch to get off with a slap on the wrist is just an incentive for the next one. Look how she and her whole family would have been set up for life if she got away with it. It's just a "nicer" version of ARMED ROBBERY.
