Watch 'Australian Story' from this week. A very interesting doco about how the 1918 Spanish pandemic affected Australians. Get a feel for what happens when viruses like this get out of control. Basically the same as covid, but for one difference....no lockdown. It killed 20+ million people worldwide. Just a silly little virus like covid.
So when you say "only x deaths", there's a reason for that - lockdown. You'd be complaining about everyone around you dying if this virus was left to spread like in 1918. "Why didn't the government protect us!!!".
