Agree with your sentiment here, the Euro companies have always held prestige due to perceived/earned better engineering. The reason to purchase and pay more for a Euro vehicle was always about a better engine, braking systems, drivetrain, gearbox etc. Trouble is with electric motors a majority of that doesn’t apply and becomes highly irrelevant. The Chinese models along with Tesla are already well in front on EV production and the legacy brands will need a point of difference to remain relevant.
The electric motor performance performs part of the function but when you see the performance already on offer from the cheaper brands it likely won’t be here where they can claw back lost ground.
Design also will go part way but many of the cheaper brands look almost like a carbon copy of a Euro design so it won’t be here either.
User experience will go a long way but again Tesla and the rise of electronics manufacturing and connectivity devices in Asia give them the edge here as well.
The main point of difference that could be made quickly is the battery pack. Faster charging, reliability, weight and density are really the main areas that can create that point of difference again and claw back some lost ground.
Should start to get interesting from here.
