2009 a Year for Norton
CCI Great Southern and Outback Resources Tour 11-14 November 2008
CCI’s Great Southern and Outback Resources Tour offers delegates a rare opportunity to gain first hand experience of some of Western Australia’s most exciting resource development projects.
The tour, hosted by CCI Chief Executive, James Pearson, will focus on a number of new and established projects throughout the region, including visits to some of WA’s most exciting operations including, Boddington Gold Mine, Windimurra Vanadium Project, Worsley Alumina, Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Super Pit, Paddington Gold Mine and Iluka Mineral Sands.
CCI’s strong relationship with several of the major players in the resources industry affords our tour participants the opportunity to visit sites usually inaccessible to the public.
Briefings on site are provided by senior executives within the sector and provide participants with valuable insights into the important and diverse resource projects currently in operation throughout the south west of the state.
Your visit to these remote regions aboard privately chartered aircrafts with an air-conditioned pressurised cabin will ensure maximum comfort and minimum delay.
Day 1: Perth to Kalgoorlie
Today’s itinerary commences with a short briefing at CCI’s head offices before we fly out to our first stop of the day, Geraldton Port Authority for a site briefing and tour. As one of Australia’s busiest regional ports, Geraldton Port Authority is the gateway to Western Australia’s diverse Mid West region and currently experiencing substantial growth and expansion. The next stop of the day is the Windimurra Vanadium Project, which is based on one of the largest vanadium Proven Ore Reserves in the world. Redevelopment is almost complete at the Windimurra mine and processing facilities, and once operational the mine will produce approximately 5,700 tonnes of vanadium as ferrovanadium per annum. We will conclude the day with a tour of the Kalgoorlie Mining Hall of Fame followed by a cocktail party hosted by the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce
Day 2: Kalgoorlie to Esperance
A briefing and site tour of the largest gold mine in Australia, the Super Pit, is first up on today’s agenda. Managed by Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines this golden mile of land has produced nearly 50 million ounces of gold in its history and currently produces up to 850,000 ounces of gold a year, making it the biggest open gold pit mine in the country. A visit to Norton Gold Fields, Paddington Gold Mine is next on the agenda. Acquired by Norton in 2007, Paddington Gold Mine currently produces 150,000 ounces of gold a year, with plans to develop an underground operation set to increase that to 250,000 ounces a year in 2009. We will then head to Esperance where we will overnight before starting the next day’s activities.
