These types of Islamic fundamentalist groups are now mushrooming throughout the Middle East. The Arab spring has made their rise possible, and in my view inevitable. Their agendas are truly terrifying, both at a domestic and international level.

The West made a massive naive mistake when it encouraged democracy demonstrators to rise up against what they incorrectly termed dictators. These rulers made it clear that it was either them or fundamentalists who would rule over these countries. These warnings were ignored by the West, and the West will eternally pay a heavy price for their ignorance.

The moderate and non-religious groups were always destined to fail in their attempt to obtain power. I warned about it at the time. Democracy is an philosophy that is alien to Islam. Fundamentalists are happy to embrace democratic processes as a means of coming to power, but once in power they will progressively ban everything and everyone who does not agree with their Koranic based ideas.

Many in the West will eventually accept that they made a naive mistake supporting the Arab spring. By then, even now, it is too late.
