Its hard to pick the bottom but gold shares sold off well before the collapse in gold price so i expect the reverse to happen on the way back up. And they will go up.
Sometimes a sector looks dead and buried (eg.retail) but sure enough, eventually it has its time in the sun again. Its jut about picking the right sectors at the right times. Gold wont fall below $1100 imo as too many producers become un-profitable and they wont let this happen. Ive mentioned the number $1350 POG a few times so im running the gautlet in dipping my feet in now. The month of May is often a time were people seek safe haven assests and gold has solid support at $1322
