Ramsay was once a small private hospital. it was enable to expand and buy other facilities thanks to Howard's boost of the profitability of such services.
I worked in a private cardiothorasic surgical unit. open heart surgery and heart replacements. I also worked in public hospital cardio units. I can tell you plainly the level of expertise in private is quite poor compared with public hospitals.
the Little Company of Mary (aka "Calvary" or Mater) took over from the Sisters of Mercy which ran the system pre early 2000s. the level of care in the catholic system fell to a degraded low with staff working short shifts and access to important patient care items, even wound dressings, made deliberately short to save pennies. the Calvary system functioned on massive grants and loans from govt and they expanded ownership. the excess funds were channelled back to the church.... just as money is moved to the church funds from education.
theres an urgent need for reform of the health system. theres massive waste based on ideological distortions in funding.
