funny how the Libs in these last 40 years have pushed hard to reduce the "cost" of the public health system while subsiding private health insurance companies. it hasn't resulted in improved level of care or expertise, it hasn't reduced waiting lists for hip[ replacements or heart surgery in public hospitals.
so yeah, the public health system has been disadvantaged by Howard's privatisation push. but it was Abbott's simplistic notions of how Medicare should be used that has caused the overloading of the public system much more than Howard's massive subsidies.
