    ppm, I think you are overly harsh on the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment played a huge part in removing the often draconian rule of the clergy and the oligarchies in Europe and paved the way for freedom of thought and speech which sped up the development of democracy, science, and of universal education.

    You've put it in a nutshell, "The Enlightenment played a huge part" , we've moved from one system into another one which we have today. but all the blame is leveled at religion.

    I agree we have moved from one troubled period to this period, which also has it's own problems, nevertheless in which the Enlightenment has played it's part to achieve. it's a bit futile blaming everything on religion when it was also achieved by the roll the Enlightenment played.

    This also has to be recognized.
