Go for a walk through Mitchell St, or Smith St Mall or drive along the stuart hwy in Darwin and have a look for yourself how the Abororiginals live. Any given day there are hundreds who are living homeless, no showers, defecate on the road, sleep in gutters or begging. You can't tell me the amount of money that is provided is going to support them. They live in their own communities which are in such bad condition, most building should be condemned.
Giving them a voice in Parliament is not going to solve the problems on the ground.
it's a natonal shame to see these people living in these terrible conditions. However, maybe they want to live like this?
The sad thing to see is the children who are stuck in this cycle of alcohol and violence. walking the streets all day and night in nappies, no shoes etc. These are the ones who need protecting. However, if you do anything about it, it will be considered another stolen generation. There are so many up in Darwin who have no hope and a voice in parliament is going to do absolutley nothing for them. Just more tokenism while the real problem is ignored and money lines pockets and the real problem is ignored.
