I have been watching too much "Last Kingdom' which sports amazing and long hair styles for the Saxons and the Vikings, both: male and female. Will now read 'King Alfred' by one of the 'Durrell' brothers - read it a long time ago . . . he was a truly amazing king, being plagued by illness and having to fight the Danes all over the South of England. When you know modern-day Danes, it is unimaginable that they were ever savage. What is obvious though and well observed in that series, is that just day-to-day existence was a hard slog. Taurisk
