    It's only recently been brought to my notice how insensitive some hospitals can be with their naming of certain wards.

    How about "End of Life Ward" for instance. They might as well add a notice with that: "Check-in only required". Or, for visitors, "If the patient you are visiting is no longer in his/her bed (Ooops watch the pronouns) ask for directions at the Nurses' Station".

    Even Palliative Care Ward is a turn-off. Everybody knows what that means and it's like a welcome to the Chapel of Rest. There have been others but I've sent them to the little grey recycle bin.

    There must be lots of better choices. How about the Hit the Road Jack ward or the Rose Garden ward (which you were never promised under your health cover). Maybe not, but surely something else can be thought of.
