a man and his ox -6 the musical

    The wagon rolled along the road. They were just 20 minutes into the days journey and enjoying the ride. Someone noted how quiet it had been lately.

    No sooner had this comment been made when up popped a goblin along with a small group of cohorts from the shorter’s tribe. The shorters started droning “sell, sell, sell”, as they had done often before.

    Then ... a twist to their attack. The high crackling tones of a goblin castrati shouting “Be careful” and “sell now before its too late” were added to the chorus of “sell, sell, sell”. The castrati cries were done to the tune of a top Goblin hit “Big Yellow dump truck”.

    This was a new tactic, designed to convince the true believers that there was a better way of life, than travelling by OX and wagon.

    OH was a bit bemused by the goblins antics and immediately thought of an alternative to this horrible form of attack.
    He started a rousing rendition of the OX wagoneers song to drown them out. This classic song was sung to a tune he had heard in the Red Metal tavern called Little Brown Jug. It was known to make shorters and goblins very uncomfortable, as they like to be seen as wise and this song poked fun at them.

    1. The OX was traveling through the land To Success, with friends at hand;
    True believers, one and all, Its lots of fun if you don’t fall

    Chorus:
    Ha, ha, ha, Goblin flee, Shorter’s are no good you see;
    Ha, ha ha, we loudly shout; "Stick with OX cause there’s no doubt”

    2. Feed the OX and treat him well, He get us through where shorter’s dwell;
    A steady pace, all through each day; Good feed and love, his only pay
    Chorus:

    3. The Goblin, he attacks each day’ Dump truck ready, all hearsay.
    Free advice and analysis, Its worth stuff all and smells like ……..;
    Chorus:

    4. 'Tis Goblin makes our friends to foes, 'Tis Goblin makes us wear old clothes;
    The markets up, look there she blows, Shorters are a burning;
    Chorus:

    5. If all believers, in the wagon race; Were gathered up, all in one place;
    The OX would clearly have the pace, To leave the rest behind,
    Chorus:

    6. For a wagon, to travel well, It takes believers, who can tell;
    A sturdy OX, and wagon strong, and a Wagoneer who’s sight is long.
    Chorus:

    This singing had such a positive effect on the believers who all joined in. The goblin and shorters squirmed all day as the song was sung all day. Firstly as a solo by OH, then accompanied by some vocal true believers, as a round with believers taking parts, as a solo, and finally en-mass as a choir.

    The ticket price for a wagon ride did not drop at all during the day and none fell of the wagon because they had so much fun watching the goblin and shorters squirm.

    The shorter’s gave up at the end of the day and went home to their mums to count beans and steal more oxygen. The Goblin hovered in the distance with no chorus behind him now. He sounded a bit flat.

    A total of 16,193,657 tickets sold during the day and the freight prices went up one cent.

    OH headed over to look after his friend the OX. He would feed and comb him and put on a rug for the night. It felt like it might be cold. A large red crunchy apple bulged in his coat hip pocket.

    All was well.
