I quite like how the UCG to combined cycle model solves most of the big issues with coal mine to coal power station.

- No open cut mine required
- No coal handling plant and coal conveyors required, just a gas pipeline.
- Quick ramping time for the gas turbine compared to a coal fired, so can handle peak load times.
- No fly ash to dispose of or clinker problems.
- multiple small units instead of 1 large unit improves reliability.
- gas turbines come in kit form these days, easy construction/commissioning

combine this with a form of urea solution sprayed into the exhaust fumes to remove SOx & NOx and you have a very evironmentally friendly solution (comparatively)
