You raise an obviously important question about any by-product of a solution such as this on the environment. CSIRO would no doubt focussed on this extensively in developing the technology.

But remember why Phoslock is being applied in the first instance - to address the negative impact of green algae on the health of the water system - which amongst other things reduces food sources for fish.

So perhaps the more important question is - what will fish eat if there is no Phoslock applied? And will there be any fish at all if the problem is not addressed?
