We used to get marched down to the oldest pit & shaft vent in town to pay homage to the first North Broken Hill Proprietries mine every sports day.
Its kind of hard to not grow up understanding the fundamentals of the Aussie economy when you are running laps around BHPs first mine shaft in 35 degree sunshine every Thursday afternoon.
