It will have become obvious to the US clinical partners that the failure of the SmartCough trial last year was due not to the ResApp technology but to their less professional contribution. I think they will have seen this as a loss of face that they would wish to have corrected. Hence their keenness to participate in the trial re-run. From a technical aspect, that misdiagnoses should be minimised this time derives from a change to a more rigorous method of analysing the radiological results. Comparison of the end-point requirements for trial #1 with trial #2 shows that the World Health Organization (WHO) Primary Endpoint Pneumonia (PEP) methodology has been adopted for the current trial.

The first trial only required comparison with an individual X-ray interpretation. The WHO PEP protocol requires a panel of radiologists interpreting all of the X-ray images and reaching an agreed diagnostic conclusion for each patient. Development of the protocol involved each panellist reviewing the images for a decision again 8 to 30 days later. This fits with the reason forwarded that the delay is caused by difficulties in organising the diverse group of adjudicators.

Combining these points with increased precision deriving from a larger patient group, the likely improvement in the reference sound signatures through further machine learning, and software improvements to the app governing the data collection procedure, I feel there is every reason to expect excellent results to be released once all information is unblinded.

No way is this going to happen...they know the Ozzie trials passed with flying colours so imagine the awfully red faces and please explains from their superiors if they didn't achieve extremely similar or even better results that the Ozzies.
Now, how will they ever show their faces in a professional capacity again if they have managed to stuff them a second time when a double blind humongous correctly administered and carried out set of comprehensive tests has already been done and dusted by excellent medical establishments back here.
Load up, load up (I did again today) and stay frosty...this job is about as right as a job will ever be IMHO.
