It is a situation where the Lunatics are in charge

"pricing pollution" - the NewSpeak that CO2 is a pollutant
They should tell that to the trees.

Ideology has taken over from any remaining Common Sense.

We are living through historic times last seen in the 1970s

The NZ Govt brought its Carbon Tax in 2008 at NZ$15/t
and energy costs went up and another bureaucracy was born.

These schemes are just Boondoggles that destroy real wealth wasting taxpayers money and only benefiting the Shiny-Seats of the Government's Sheltered bureaucracy and dependent Scientists. They are not called to account for the OUTCOME - "Will all this Carbon ideology in advance of commitments by China India USA and all the others, make any difference to anything to do with the climate?"

All they can definitely say is that it will cause inflation and add costs to everything. Brilliant!

ORG has been proactive with its tilt at geothermal with GDY - looks to be a waste of money.

ORG has tried to buy Contact Energy in NZ - failed but if a Cross-Ditch emissions trading scheme does get birthed then it has good assets in NZ that will exploit it

The Brits can see the problem with wind where every wind farm needs expensive gas powergen backup.

Yeah I know bring out the Green Koalas to lecture Engineers on how to do the Green way - How about a smart grid and molten salt and solar farms across the nullabor with a HVDC inter-connector bring west and east together so we all chant around the campfire seeking light and warmth.

What will be the carbon price to encourage the building of baseload CCGTs again instead of OCGTs that just support the Wind Farms ? The ORG bloke recently reckoned $35/t. They have said in the past that above $40/t that CCGT becomes the lowest cost new build source.

What price will be announced on Sunday ? A $20/t would seem a "political" starting point .

The Logic :- NZ started at NZ$15/t and we need to be "superior" to our afflicted little neighbour so if we do A$20/t then with exchange rate x1.29 = NZ$26/t so we are getting close to almost twice as good as they are in their initial climate governance action. We will get the Climate under control faster and stop the temperature from rising.

We will need to check the fine print on Sunday to see what Ratchet clauses there are to get it to the $70/t the Greens want in order to wipe out the Evil Coal.

But will we still export millions of tonnes of Coal to Asia so thay can burn it instead of us ? This is the time of the Barnum circus.

They wouldnt want to "Brown" off the Coal industry too much. Imagine where Victoria would be wihout Brown Coal.

ORG expects the average emission intensity of the NEM to reduce following the introduction of a carbon price - a Patsy statement but what else could they say ?

Gas will get some of a boost at $20/t but Coal powergen will still be cheaper.

Maybe we will get the East Coast gas reservation of 15% like WA has - burn gas domestically rather than export it as LNG

Looks like ORG could be looking aound for some gas. That Tristar reversion problem affecting APLNG refuses to go away.

    Volatile beyond belief

    Cheers
