A few of the upper coal zones can be washed to produce a soft coking coal, ie Grootegeluk which supplies Arcelor Mittal steel mills under a long term contract. However from their 35 million ROM tons they produce about 1.5 to 2 million tons of coking product.
What they do have in the lower zones is a PCI coal which they use to make char on the mine, now that's the way to go!
