1stly, both Local.com and UpSnap are existing partners of Looksmart, ok?

This is some solid research that centers around some "empire building". Hope you enjoy it!

GetLocal.com.au is yet another site with listings supplied by truelocal.com.au that is a brand of ALS.

    NOW!!!

WebProNews has a recent Video (good quality, too) interview with Jake Baille who is the President of TrueLocal.

    http://videos.webpronews.com/2006/12/07/local-search-mobile-web-and-the-battle-against-spam-blogs/

When we click on the link (here in OZ), we get:

    http://www.truelocal.com/

The message says: "TrueLocal Australia is launching soon!" [Interesting???] A click on "More Info" tells us: TrueLocal Australia will be launching in 2006. (But as can be seen, it obviously hasn't, as yet?)

And I thought I may have previously mentioned, there had been a 'sh#t fight' over the name, TrueLocal.com.au, that went through the courts:

< Moreover, all other things being equal, the registration of a domain name that adopts generic words may in certain circumstances give rise to a legitimate right or interest by itself. See, for example, the recent case cited by the Respondent, TrueLocal Inc., Geosign Technologies Inc. and True Local Limited v. News Interactive Pty Limited, WIPO Case No. DAU2006-0003, where the generic domain name was in issue, in circumstances not dissimilar from the present case >

Newscorp (on their Australian site) make 'no bones' about their "True Local" offering (down the RHS) on their web site, as shown here.

Back to that (WebProNews) Video interview …It was interesting to hear Jake Baille's thoughts (& he gave big wraps to AskCity.com) on Mobile devices and that the biggest problem was getting onto "carrier's decks", as such. (And Looksmart partner UpSnap, already have that "connection" with Cingular Wireless).

    http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=upsn.ob

Jake Baille pointed out that the Carriers are not wanting to involve the BIG search engines (Google, Yahoo & MSN) for fear of them getting too close to their advertisers. I like the thoughts about "scra per sites", too ……The big "sell down" of UpSnap makes it a "big" specie buy ATM, I reckon. (closed @ $0.91cps on Friday, down from a level of around $1.30cps, a couple of days before!!!) - And @ $0.78cps overnight, down another 14.29%!! - Nasdaq - UPSN.OB

Back to TrueLocal.com. On april 14th Mike wrote in a private Looksmart discussion Group:

< Another mystery unfolded on a piece on Local.com written by Loren Baker on his blog SearchEngineJournal.com. It was pulled but not before the damage (spidering) was done and me and Nadim caught it.

We both wrote him and I left a polite comment on the blog asking where it went. He waited 3 days and then it reappeared with a very pitiful excuse attached. Sorry, every blogger knows his posts, he undoubtedly lives his blog as he should. It is a best of breed authority search blog.

Why did he pull it? I will guess. Since he knows everyone in the industry he was asked not to make Local.com and all their deals look so nice.

One reason might be he may be covering somewhat for his friend Jake Bailey(sp) who owns Truelocal.com and may be nearing completion of a negotiation with Murdoch's people. (remember Murdoch bought truelocal.au [different company] some weeks back).Jake would not want his friend making a commercial for a competing local search engine in a delicate time.

Paranoid here? Maybe but these bloggers are all in touch. Most meet multiple times a year at SEW and other events. >

Mike ……And I think you just MAY BE, 100% CORRECT!!!?? But I am not (for one minute) discounting Local.com out of the equation, whatsoever. Local.com has (both) the US and UK already "HOOKED UP" with Looksmart's Furl. And "baked Jake" (with TrueLocal.com) has already paved the way for Canadian newspapers, (& a French version too), so is it any wonder that Loren Baker chose not to reply to you, Nadim and myself?

UpSnap.com also has a good chance of being involved here Fella's!!

< UpSNAP's registered user base grew to over 2.33 million registered customers in fiscal 2006, and UpSNAP added thousands of new content providers and services. >

Yes .....We shareholders do get excited!! But we feel we have a lot to be excited about, too!!
