Regarding the spouse comment, your opening post stated;
"There was once a time in this country when you could work 40 hours a week, your spouse didn't have to work, and you retired at 60 with a pension"
Given the topic of your post is "A Once Great Country Being Ruined," the inference is that your spouse now working is somehow contributing to the ruining of the country.
As for opportunities not being available to everyone, yes I agree to a point, but IMO it's only a very small percentage of people those opportunities aren't available to. I was raised in a low income single parent family. The greatest distinguishing factors between financial stability and struggling are financial literacy (which you can learn) and individual effort (which you are in control of).
