    Why thankyou yttrium. It is nice to know we can both see what the fundamental problem is.

    And also I agree with you that education and availability of contraception would most likely see a voluntary reduction in human breeding. Unfortunately most religions around the world are a major stumbling block to this happening and I don't know how that is to be overcome.

    In countries like Australia which have a generous government child support system perhaps the family benefits paid per child could start reducing after the first two or three children are born so the payment is less for any subsequent children. This would probably have only a small effect on the birth rate but I think it's worth considering.
