Sorry, I'll dispute the claim that 'at some time sellers must repurchase shares over the next few weeks'. Recall the discussion that was an infinite number of years ago in HotCopper time that a lot of the shorting was likely due to Warrant holders locking in a profit at higher prices between market and the strike of their warrants.
They only 'must' repurchase shares if recalled by lenders. If lenders don't want the stock back all the shorters need to do to stay short is pay borrow fees.
