Yes! it's needed, you can have multiple sensing arrays to detect 100's of different things and more miniturised than current applications, with no electrical current being transmitted in the sensor arrays which allows these sensors to be submerged in liquids without damage, unlike the current styles. It's alot more accurate aswell...
