My view of the FoxTel deal with News and Telstra was that News got exactly what they wanted as in:
1. A cable outlet for their 20th Century Fox and related content
2. Greater political influence through Sky and the putrid clone of Fox in the US (Sky after dark etc.).
Telstra got another shiny toy to play with for a while and years of losses. I think analysis will show that Telstra was naive while NWS (as a whole) did quite well out of the arrangement.
As for the AFL we'll see. They'll have to cut costs in 2021 but there's massive demand and people won't be able to get enough once it returns. The only risk I see to the banks is if they can't get a normal season in next year.
