You have described exactly what will happen to BTV. Once they acquire something, ANYTHING...whether it be gold, copper, phosphate, nickel...ANYTHING...the price will spike.
Because the DREADED uncertainty will be gone.
People feel more comfortable with a KNOWN purchase, even if it is far too expensive, rather than buying underpriced cash, when they DON'T KNOW what it will be invested in.
If BTV announced an asset purchase WORTH $5m but that COST them $10m, people would be buying BTV tomorrow at 12 cents.
An interesting case study in investor psychology...
The stockmarket is down. Resources assets are cheap. China isn't going to stop industrialising tomorrow. And many juniors have little cash, and little prospect of raising it without terrible dilution of shareholder value.
And BTV has TWICE as much cash as they are being valued at, and are looking for a bargain... in a buyer's market.
$25m is worth $25m.
And you can buy $25m (and the uncertainty) for $12m.
$13m worth of stuff-ups already factor in to the price. Anything better is a bonus.
And just imagine if BTV bought WELL....
disclosure: 1,300,000 shares.
