since when was mining solely about npv? that is only one measure, another is resource endowment
by this analysts reasoning, a project with say x million pounds producing at y million lb per annum for thirty yrs is worth the same as a project with a resource three times as large producing at the y million lb per annum for 90 yrs
don't think the chinese will see it that way, here are the limitations of western financial analysis imo
pounds in the ground are valuable, that is why u spend money to increase your resource inventory.
by this analyst's reasoning olympic dam is worth close to nothing beyond the npv of profits for the next 25 yrs say (because after a long period the future cash flows are worth a very small sum today for example $100 in 25 yrs time discounted at 10% is worth only $9.23 today)... i think bhp would see it very very differently
