nice to see some folks giving a response, whereby that shows that they have an comprehension of the meaning of the word, religion.
for so many it has being obscured
"relegere "go through again" (in reading or in thought), from re- "again" (see re-) + legere "read"
essentially, to repeat an action
was recently considering that some monks may be having a bad diet, because they eat whatever is placed in the alms bowl
this is out dated
2500 years ago there was not any GMO's Industrial, pesticides and herbicides, and what passes for food was no where near as refined and processed as it is today, not to mention loaded with sodium chloride and sucrose and additives and flavour enhancers, and cruelty - bad kamma
many so-called monks could easily become ill, and then die, from poor nutrition, which might be ok, in some situations
but monks are supposed to refrain from intoxicants
we know know for sure that the state of the body and brain can affect the mind
so, for the large majority, eating and drinking such foods are toxic
this is where the word intoxication comes from
blindly following a book of rules is just not going to cut it
one needs to be continually using directed thought and evaluation and ingenuity, to create and modify one's religious behavior (habits and rituals)
when one hears the word "religion" one would be wise to cease from thinking in this common way:
i'm a christian, buddhist, atheist, moslem, jain, agnostic, JW, alcoholic, jew, etc,
but, instead, think of religion, as what one is doing repeatedly - not a thing, but, rather, actions
