Rather than being pessimistic I think he was trying to get the message through that recent expectations were unrealistic and unsustainable. In the longer run deferral/scaling down of Olympic Dam and Port Hedland expansions... plus rationalization of some NWS and Gladstone gas projects.... is most likely in Australia's longer term best economic interests.
