Mate they sold a monopoly network to millions of Australians for $60+ billion.. They are now going to build another monopoly network, with the intent to selling that to private interests within 5 years..

So in my calculations, their intent is to take away $60+ billion of taxpayers money paid for into Telstra shares, for nil return.. If that is not thievery of the highest order, what is??

When and where did they ever say that it was going to be a monopoly network forever? In 99 the ACCC got rid of the TLS monopoly on local calls.
it has been quite obvious for a long time that TLS was the caretaker of an ageing technology that eventually would be worthless (sen richard alston even said this)
When the float was originally done in 97 there was hardly an internet presence . Fibre was not even being discussed as a form of network. How then could it have been excluded.

I bought TLS on the massive fall below $3 and would have been a holder but for the announcement today which changes everything. To say that the govt has stolen anything from TLS holders by building its own network is just naive. if on the other hand the original NBN had proceeded with the govt taking control of the copper , then I would have agreed with you.
