What we have now is totally broken...it does not give us the Government or direction we want / need. What difference would a Republic make?
We can't even get rid of the lairs cheats and oxygen thieves that are thrown up within this "Democracy"...they just hang around like a decaying fish stench until the next election time when they might get booted if the party they are attached to gets booted.
How would a Republic be any different? Even if we modelled a new Democracy on the American system we would still end up with a party room and Government full of buffoons, knobs and knuckle heads....just as we have now.
Let's try and give the people an actual say, where any "Politician" that rorts or is in someway unworthy of retaining their position is immediately stood down and replaced.
The joke that was Craig Thomson and the joke that is Bill Gordon in Qld show us just how broken the system is...a Republic wont fix this.
