    Hi Eagle,

    A very good post. We currenly have a stable proven system - I'd be loath to change it. For all practical purposes the Queen is a figurehead only - its the Governor General that has any real power (and that is highly limited).

    I particularly agree with your last paragraph - our economic future is a more important matter to focus on and in particular the structural deficit. The last thing the government should focus on is a 3rd rate matter that is irrelevant to most Australian's daily lives. Australians will certainly feel the effects of an unsustainable debt load - just ask the PIGS (Portugal / Italy / Ireland / Greece / Spain) - many of those countries had 25% unemployment / 50% youth unemployment when the GFC occurred and they still haven't recovered almost a decade later.
